Johan Redström is Professor of Design at the Umeå Institute of Design, Umeå University.

He works at the intersection of Research through Design (RtD) and design philosophy. His teaching and research focus on emerging technologies, experimental and speculative design, and increasingly on posthumanist perspectives. He has previously served as Rector of the Umeå Institute of Design and, prior to that, as Design Director at the Interactive Institute. Johan’s most recent books include Making Design Theory (MIT Press, 2017) and Changing Things: The Future of Objects in a Digital World, co-authored with Heather Wiltse (Bloomsbury, 2018).
